NYIPLA WEBSITE PRIVACY POLICY

Welcome to the New York Intellectual Property Law Association website (the "Site"). NYIPLA values your privacy. NYIPLA has created this policy to make its members and site visitors aware of the types of information NYIPLA collects in connection with the Site, how that information is used and under what circumstances NYIPLA may share that information with others. This policy may change at any time; any changes will be posted on this page. By using the Site and accessing the content contained within it, you signify that you understand and agree to the then-current version of this policy.

Types of Information Collected

NYIPLA may automatically collect certain information when you visit the Site, which may include your browser information, previous webpages visited and your IP address. This information does not personally identify you. The Site may also use "cookies" for purposes such as storing members' passwords and preferences. Cookies are small pieces of information that are stored by your browser on your computer's hard drive. If you edit your Internet browser to block cookies, you may be required to reenter certain information when you visit the Site and certain features of the Site may be unavailable to you.

NYIPLA does not require that anyone register in order to visit the Site. However, if you choose to use certain features of the Site, we may request that you register and provide certain personal information, such as your first and last name, mailing address, email address and the like. You may also be asked to provide such information to receive certain services from NYIPLA or to register to attend courses, events or meetings. NYIPLA may also collect certain demographic data such as your zip code and gender.

If you communicate with NYIPLA by email, post messages to any of our chat groups, bulletin boards or forums, or otherwise complete online forms or surveys, NYIPLA may collect information you provide in doing so. Whenever you voluntarily disclose personal information online (such as to other participants in a chat group), that information can be collected and used by others. You provide such information at your own risk.

How NYIPLA Uses the Information

In general, NYIPLA uses the personal information that you provide for the specific purpose for which the information was collected. For example, if you wish to join a committee and provide your contact information online, NYIPLA will share that information with the committee chair so that he or she may contact you. NYIPLA may also use information you provide to contact you about your membership and to send you information about NYIPLA, services NYIPLA provides to its members and other types of information that NYIPLA believes will be of interest to you. If you do not wish to receive such communications, please login with your username and password to "opt out" of receiving email messages.

NYIPLA may monitor traffic patterns and Site usage in order to further develop the features and functionality of the Site and to enhance your online experience.

NYIPLA may disclose traffic data to its service providers and may share demographic (non-personal) data with advertisers and other third parties.

NYIPLA will not disclose or share any of the personal information you provide except as described in this policy. NYIPLA may share or disclose your information when it has your permission to do so or when NYIPLA has a good faith belief that such disclosure is mandated by law, including without limitation, disclosure to law enforcement or other government officials in connection with an investigation of fraud, intellectual property infringements, or other activity that is illegal or may expose NYIPLA or you to liability.

Entities into which NYIPLA is merged, or to which its assets, the Site or operations have been transferred, will have access to and be able to use your personal information under the terms of this policy. Also, certain courts, such as U.S. Bankruptcy Courts, may have the authority under certain circumstances to permit your personal information to be shared or transferred to third parties without your permission.
